Valentine’s Day in Galway is always a good idea.
Whether it’s a first date, a long-awaited getaway, or simply an excuse to escape the routine, there’s something about the west of Ireland that lends itself naturally to romance. Maybe it’s the sea air. Maybe it’s the music drifting from a cosy pub doorway. Or maybe it’s those sweeping Atlantic views that make you feel like the only two people in the world.
This Valentine’s week (or any week for that matter!), why not take your celebrations a little further?
Sunset at the Cliffs of Moher
Move over Heathcliff and Cathy, the real wuthering heights are to be found on the western edge of Ireland. Few places rival the Cliffs of Moher for sheer drama. Towering above the Atlantic, with waves crashing below and seabirds gliding on the breeze, it’s a setting made for memorable moments, or, dare we say it, a romantic proposal. It’s wild, it’s breathtaking, and it certainly beats a crowded restaurant table.

The Aran Islands: Just the Two of You
For couples seeking something a little different, the Aran Islands is your ticket. Think dramatic stone walls, crashing waves, and panoramic coastal views. There’s something wonderfully grounding about standing together on the edge of the Atlantic – no distractions, just fresh air and wide-open space. Good for the soul! Note: this tour runs from March 1st to October 31st.

Kylemore Abbey: Fairytale Romance
Tucked into the heart of Connemara, Kylemore Abbey is postcard perfect. The reflection of the Abbey on the lake, the surrounding mountains, the Victorian Walled Garden – it’s old-school romance, Irish-style. A stroll here feels like stepping into another time, perfect for couples who appreciate beauty, history and a wee bit of peace and quiet.
Cong & Woodland Walks
If your idea of romance involves winding forest paths and lakeside views, Cong delivers. Famous as the setting for The Quiet Man, the village offers cosy corners and scenic walks through Cong Woods. Hand in hand, you can wander beneath ancient trees before grabbing a warm (or cold) brew in one of the village’s welcoming spots.
Connemara’s Wild Beauty
Connemara in winter (Longest. Winter. Ever.) has a charm all of its own. Soft light over the Twelve Bens, quiet roads winding past lakes and bogland, big fluffy sheep grazing unconcerned as you pass by. It’s peaceful, unspoiled, and undeniably romantic in its own understated way.

Galway will be buzzing, as always. The Latin Quarter will hum with music, restaurants will fill with couples, and Salthill sunsets will not disappoint. That said, it’ll still be there next week, but if you fancy beating the Valentine’s crowds this particular weekend and seeing a little more of what makes this corner of Ireland so special, a day tour – hey, we may be a little biased – might just be the perfect pitstop.
Our full and half-day bus tours offer a relaxed, comfortable way to explore some of Ireland’s most romantic landscapes – without the stress of driving. Sit back, take in the scenery, and focus on what really matters: spending time together.
Whether you’re celebrating a brand-new romance or decades of shared memories, there’s no better backdrop than the Wild Atlantic Way. Just be careful with that ring if you’re thinking of popping the question!
However you mark Valentine’s Day this year, we hope it’s filled with laughter, fresh air, and perhaps just a touch of Irish magic.
And if you need a little help planning it – you know where we are. 🍀
